This charming auction lot offers an extraordinary opportunity to acquire an extensive set of ten sheets by the esteemed artist Miyagawa Shuntei, renowned for his masterful Meiji-era genre scenes. All prints originate from his famous series "Children's Manners and Customs" (Kodomo Fuzoku), published in 1897. The collection serves as a visual encyclopedia of traditional children's games and pastimes from the late 19th century. The group includes the well-known winter motif of a boy on bamboo stilts (takeuma) while his companions build a snowman in the background. Other scenes capture children with extraordinary nostalgia and delicacy as they play blind man's bluff, create shadow puppets, light sparklers, play card games, or engage in games of tag. The entire collection features high-quality printing, a muted color palette, and masterful depictions of children's dynamics and expressions. The sheets show wear consistent with their age, including minor edge wear.
