An atmospheric night rain scene with diagonal lines of falling rain cutting through the dark sky. In the distance, city lights shimmer and a lone boat glides beneath another bridge on the horizon. The composition recalls Andō Hiroshige’s celebrated “Evening Shower at Ohashi Bridge,” reimagined in the poetic shin-hanga style with subtle gradations of tone and luminous reflections.

Little is known about Hiroshige IV, whose real name was Kiichirō Kikuchi. Active during the 1920s–30s, he is believed to have adopted the name “Hiroshige” as an homage to the great master rather than as a direct successor of the Utagawa lineage. He is most likely the author of this work. This unsigned impression is likely a later 1930s printing, produced for the export market.
