GALERIE ARCIMBOLDO EXTENDS A CORDIAL INVITATION TO ITS AUTUMN AUCTION OF ASIAN WORKS OF ART

On Wednesday, *November 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.*, Galerie Arcimboldo will hold its 15th sale, entitled *Asian Works of Art*, featuring 252 carefully selected works of art from Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Tibet, Mongolia, India, and China.

One of the most important lots in the Chinese Art section is Qi Baishi’s scroll painting Red Morning Glories, one of 25 works on offer in this sale from the prestigious collection of Ing. Karel Holan, general consul at the Czechoslovak Embassy in Shanghai from 1955 to 1957. Other important paintings include Bamboo by Xu Beihong, which bear’s the artist’s dedication to the Czech sculptor Jan Lauda; a scroll painting of a mountain landscape by Chen Banding; and a compelling portrait of a girl by modern Chinese artist Zhang Li.

In the category of Chinese antiques, three very rare archaic vessels are featured. They date from the 11th to the 5th century BC - a bronze “gu” cup, a “ding” ritual pot, and a “dou” bowl. There is also a large jade figure of Guanyin from the Ming dynasty, a collection of ivory pieces, and a selection of high quality porcelain from the Sui, Tang, Song, Ming, Kangxi, Qianlong, and Guangxu periods.

The Japanese section offers an extensive collection of ivory netsuke and okimono, a beautiful set of woodcuts depicting flora and fauna by Ohara Koson, a set of “tosei gusoku” modern type armour, and last but certainly not least, an extraordinary wooden incense burner carved to represent the poet Sotoba Komachi.

Lamaist art is represented by a beautiful bronze figure of Green Tara from the 15th century, a large gilt bronze figure of the Bodhisattva Manjushri, and a rare bronze figure of Yamantaka dating to the 18th century.

And finally, also worthy of mention is a large decorative Indian chintz panel from the 18th century. Similar panels were used to decorate contemporary interiors and enjoyed great popularity. Only a few examples of undamaged textiles of this size and age such as this one have been preserved.
